Cups play a grand but muted role in our everyday lives. Cups are ritual, cups are convenience, cups are expression. From protecting our hands while we sip our morning coffee to capturing a magical glimmer as the bartender slides you a drink, cups serve us in a wide variety of ways that all speak to a common human experience. We Are Cups is designed for those who appreciate the qualities of these vessels and invites the discerning viewer to look at them in a novel way.

Over 50 types of drinkware were researched and assets sourced to support this project’s vision. After trimming to a final set of 40 cups, data — including name, material, and common sizes & volumes — were recorded, vector graphics produced for each cup, and a cohesive design system created to communicate the information researched. Found photography was turned into macro images that accompany each set of data, abstracting the object’s form and providing contrast to the concrete information. The resulting spreads were then printed and perfect-bound, and the resulting artifact was photographed in a studio.
